This new series of work is a collection old memories, lived experiences, snippets of history and family hearsay. They personalise places I’ve lived, that are slowly slipping away and being
replaces by convenience and generic construction. I love the flotsam and jetsam of make do, of courageous ordinary people bringing their culture and adding to others, and he relentless nature of the Tropics corroding and disfiguring old wooden structures. Its what lies beneath that leaves a message from the past. There is no definitive place, just images that tell stories.

The paintings are built up with layers, starting with loose acrylic glazes poured onto the canvas. Mono printing (one off images) and collage builds up colour and line in an expressive way, beginning with uneven black lines. Colour is used to evoke mood rather than reality. Many images are smudged out, reminiscent of vague memories with new replacing old.
