Step into the evocative world of Nick Olsen, where heightened colour, light and imagination transform ordinary moments into something memorable. Inspired in part by a recent journey through Central Australia and Kati Thanda (Lake Eyre), Over the Hills and Far Away invites us to pause, reflect and rediscover a sense of wonder, stillness and the beauty found in simple moments.

Exhibition Statement

I like to see my work as a form of portal to another world. A world where heightened colour and light encourage the viewer to visit emotion brought on by memories. I want these memories to take us to places where we reflect on the beauty of a single moment.

These moments often involve the 'ordinary’ or examples of simplicity. It is these moments where we are alone to commune with ourselves, our inner child. Where wonder creates a sense of who we are and how we see.

A recent journey to central Australia and Kati Thanda (Lake Eyre) presented many moments of solitude and allowed me to reflect on the power of the imagination. I enjoyed the idea, in these reflections, that we create our own mythology.

I believe that mine is one that reveals clarity through humble simplicity. Letting imagination take oneself to places of wonder, single moments of peace and stillness.
