This painting is inspired by the pastoral elegies of the celebrated English Romantic Period poet, Matthew Arnold.

His poems including “Scholar Gipsy” and “Thyrsis” see the symbolism of a solitary tree crowning a hill and the metaphor for the inevitability of change.

A struggle against the “strange disease of modern life”.

The fluid “wet on wet “ watercolour technique is the perfect medium for this.

This artwork is currently being held on exhibition in the Gallery and is able to be collected at the completion of the exhibition.
