Learn more about Leah Anketell

b. 1984 Bulli, New South Wales

Leah is an Australian artist raised in an abandoned 100 year old hospital in the small town of Glen Innes, with a population 3000, in the Northern Tablelands of NSW. Growing up in nature greatly influenced Leah's paintings that originated with her childhood visions which have a strong influence of the Australian 'outback' culture.

After graduating with High Distinctions in painting, life drawing & sculpture, Leah was approached to work as a ‘scenic film artist’ for Australian films, which included: 'South Solitary', 'Wabi Sabi', 'Neighbours' and many others. Generating increasing attention, Leah left the film industry to pursue oil painting full time.

Leah has a cast of characters in her paintings which include dogs, cats, rabbits, roosters and goldfish, all are imbued with such human emotion that you quickly lose sight of the subject matter and technique and find yourself responding to the very real emotions that lie just below the surface. She has recently embarked in a combination of oil and metallic paints that bring her subjects to angelic life.

Leah has exhibited group and solo shows in various locations and galleries across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Byron Bay & Hong Kong.

She lives and works in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales.
