John Braben is a British born artist and designer. He studied fine art at Wallasey School of Art in Merseyside UK, majoring in painting. He began his professional career in 1967 as a tutor in painting, drawing and basic design while continuing to paint and draw in his own time. In 1969 his career changed direction when, on the strength of his visualising skills and interest in graphic design, he began work as a designer/visualiser in the commercial design and advertising industry.
Braben and his family moved to Brisbane in 1973 where he enjoyed a successful career as a designer, illustrator & design director in book publishing, design and advertising. He paints mostly local landscapes and cityscapes. His technique is painterly and the painting process intuitive and fluid with a strong accent on colour and tone, light and shade.
Most of his easel paintings are executed in oils or acrylics with smaller works on paper being produced in watercolour, inks, acrylics and gouache.
