Terry Swann: A Life Painted in the Landscape

Terry Swann: A Life Painted in the Landscape

For almost three decades, Terry Swann has been part of the Red Hill Gallery story. Ahead of her tenth exhibition with us, Colours of Country, we look beyond the finished paintings to the journeys, places and experiences that inspire her work.

Painting Country as She Finds It

Terry is a leading Australian watercolour artist who has spent many years travelling and painting on location.

From Cape York to the wildflower country of Western and South Australia, she works directly within the landscape, responding to its changing light, colour, atmosphere and energy.

Painting outdoors requires patience and instinct. The weather shifts, the light moves and the landscape never remains completely still. It is this immediacy that gives Terry’s watercolours their freshness and unmistakable sense of place.

The Story Behind the Paintings

For Terry, each painting begins with an experience.

A remote waterhole, a sweep of wildflowers or the changing colours of the Australian bush may first capture her attention. Through watercolour, she translates these moments into paintings that feel alive with movement, light and atmosphere.

Her work is not simply a record of a landscape. It is her personal response to being there.

Colours of Country

Terry’s latest exhibition brings together paintings inspired by her travels through some of Australia’s most remote and beautiful regions.

Colours of Country celebrates the diversity of the Australian landscape, from delicate wildflowers and tranquil waterways to vast, rugged country.

We are delighted to welcome Terry back to Red Hill Gallery for this very special tenth exhibition.
