I first learned of Cloudland from the photos of Mum at the Cloudland Ballroom.
The black and white photos show her sitting in front of a painted backdrop, Mum ,18, resplendent in a dress she had made and her date in black tie. Cloudland was the finest dancehall in Australia and at 3,200 m2 it could hold 1,000 couples dancing. It’s illuminated dome dominated the skyline at Bowen Hills until its illegal demolition in 1982.
