The blackened debris and devastation caused by fires, and the beauty of re-growth in the landscape that can follow, is represented in the partly carbonised forms that bleed into the natural colours of the land.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\"\u003eMy practice is process driven and I enjoy the transformative nature of the materials. Works are hand-built, with forms pinched, paddled, altered and refined. A surface treatment of terra sigillata is applied before the work is burnished. Pieces are then saggar fired with organic combustible materials to provide a partially charcoaled patina. The works retain the marks of the making process, which reinforces the connection between the raw materials used and the earth they are taken from. The ‘smoking’ effect on the object surface cannot be pre-determined.
